Edited by Mike Ehrman Local singer songwriter Albert Meintjes has been entertaining audiences all over the world since 1996, his approach to music and the acoustic guitar has always been heartfelt and honest. Albert cannot officially be classed as our local, he lives in Glentana and has done so for the past 6 years, I believe 15 years is the unofficial requirement. I was fortunate to hear Albert play recently at Mooiuitsig Kombuis, and was truly impressed by the depth and energy of his musical offering. All his audiences it seems are in agreement, Albert Meintjes live on stage is an uplifting experience with a musical journey not to be missed. Albert Meintjes, an accomplished singer songwriter was first seen on the stages of South Africa in 1996. Inspired and motivated to write and perform his own compositions he embarked on a very exciting journey. With a poetic style of writing, he addresses the emotions and feelings we all encounter from daily. His stories of love and life make for entertaining if pensive lyrics. He is strongly influenced by folk and acoustic music across the globe, coupled with indigenous rhythms and melodies. He has a deep love for Southern American flavours of music, particularly where they meet African rhythms, these traits are rooted deep in his music. Albert grew up in a musical family, his parents both recorded gospel artists, his sister Hainley a jazz vocalist and brother Gideon Meintjes, one of SA’s top drummers and performing musicians. In 1997 his music career took him to the rock stages of SA and he soon found himself sharing the spotlight with the cream of SA talent, including bands like Strange Weather, Duusman, the SAMA award winning Not My Dog and the ever so popular Scicoustic of which Albert has been the front man for the past sixteen years. Albert has performed with New Porn alongside Arno Carstens, supporting the Metallica tour. With his unique voice, brilliant song writing and exceptional guitar techniques, Albert has entertained audiences in London, Croatia, Seychelles, Mozambique, Cuba, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Egypt, Belgium, The Netherlands, Nigeria and Kenya. He has released two albums with Scicoustic, one album as Algrecko featuring Greg Georgiades. Albert launched his debut solo album ‘The Very Silence of waiting in this place” in April 2017. The album was written about Namibia and the special places he visited touring the country in 2016. Adapted from - www.albertmeintjes.co.za
