This grasshopper was photographed for minimal depth of focus to ensure focus on the insect’s interesting dark striped eyes in a soft sea of green. Lens – 100mm f/2.8 macro, shutter speed - 1:200 sec, aperture - f/2.8, sensor sensitivity - ISO 100. As relatively large beings on this planet, we are inquisitive about the miniature realms of our everyday world. Close up or macro photography intrigues us as photographers, so we try and get ever closer to our subject. Some basic considerations would include, use and get to know the best quality camera and lens that will allow you to adjust, aperture and shutter speeds for a given exposure. Experiment with different angles and distances from your chosen subject. Keep a written record of your settings and results so you can learn from your failures and successes. Plan your compositions carefully deciding what it is you want to portray. Get to know and understand the use and effects of sharpness and blur; a big part of macro imaging. Finally, practice, practice, practice.
