A FIRST FOR KLIPHEUWEL

NEW MTB SERIES

On the weekend of the 29th of July 2017, the Eden Spur MTB League had the 2nd event of the series at the Klipheuwel MTB Park in Klein Brak River. It was the first time that the track was used for a league event and it was purpose built by track-builder Fred Lingenvelder. The Long course measured 2.8km and the short course 1.9km. Although the track was still “raw” (not yet ridden in) at certain places it got high marks from the competitors. In total we had 132 riders (81 from primary school and 51 from secondary school) that represented 27 different schools! We even had one participant that came as far as Bredasdorp to represent his local high school. The lap record on the day was by one of the Youth riders (Tristan Nortjé) in a very quick 8 minutes and 15 seconds. Our top Primary school male rider was Christian Hattingh and female rider Alissa Coetzer (both from Outeniqua Primary). In the High school categories the top rider and current league leader was Casper Pretorius and the lady Leonora du Preez (Outeniqua High School). In total 412 laps were completed on the day by the riders and the event was a huge success. The winning schools on the day were Blanco Primary School and Outeniqua High School. Both schools are also the current league leaders after the first two events. The complete results can be found on the organiser website: www.chaingangevents.co.za . We want to thank the Klipheuwel MTB Park and Stall staff and owners, as well as Fred Lingenvelder for the excellent facilities and preparation of the track on such short notice and we will for certain make use of your facilities again in the future. Please remember that League event #3 will be on the 12th of August 2017 at the Witfontein plantation track. Normal entry via the organiser website: www.chaingangevents.co.za A gallery of pictures of the event can be viewed on the League Facebook page: https://goo.gl/RxHBrE
